China's wind and solar capacity hits 1,950 GW by end-Jun, up 16.8% YoY

China's combined installed capacity of wind and solar power reached 1,950 GW by the end of June, up 16.8% year on year from the same period in 2025, the National Energy Administration said at a July 30 press conference. Power generation from wind and solar exceeded 1.2 trillion kWh in the first half of 2026, accounting for about a quarter of total electricity consumption. Meanwhile, coal-fired power output stood at 2.5 trillion kWh, with its share of total generation falling to 49.7%, marking the first time it dropped below 50% in a half-year period.
