India's net electricity generation reached a record 191.6 TWh in May 2026, surpassing the previous high of 181.6 TWh set in May 2024, according to Monthly Electricity Statistics data released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) on Aug 17. India's net power output grew at an average annual rate of 6.8% during 2020-2025, equivalent to an average absolute increase of 110.5 TWh per year.
