Lushan pumped storage unit starts operation in C China

The first 325 MW unit at the Lushan pumped storage power station in Henan province has commenced commercial operation, adding clean energy capacity to support grid stability in central China.

The station, located in Lushan county under Pingdingshan city, has a total installed capacity of 1,300 MW, comprising four 325 MW reversible pumped-storage units. PowerChina's subsidiaries, including Sinohydro Bureau 14 and Sinohydro Bureau 5, undertook the construction.

Once fully operational, the station will generate 1.05 TWh of electricity annually, saving 405,000 tonnes of standard coal and cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 1.03 million tonnes. The project is expected to boost renewable energy absorption, optimize Henan's energy mix and support rural revitalization.
