Yunnan green power trading surges 124% YoY in Jan-Aug

Yunnan Power Grid Co. reported on September 2 that cumulative green power trading in the province exceeded 3.7 TWh as of August 2026, with January-August volumes reaching 1.18 TWh, up 124% year on year.

Yunnan boasts abundant green energy resources, with clean energy installed capacity of 164 GW accounting for 91% of the provincial total, ranking among the highest in China. Clean energy generation has consistently accounted for over 85% of output, reaching world-class levels, while the power carbon emission factor stands at 0.13 kg/KWh, the lowest nationwide.

Since launching green power trading in 2022, Yunnan has achieved normalized trading across annual, monthly and day-ahead cycles, introduced innovative retail contracts and flexible contract transfer mechanisms to lower entry barriers for users. Cross-provincial and cross-regional trading has also broken ground, with green power now flowing to Guangdong, Hainan, Shanghai and Zhejiang as the province expands into broader national markets.

At the start of the 15th "Five-Year Plan" period, Yunnan will continue pursuing carbon peak and neutrality goals and new power system development, optimizing market mechanisms for green power and green certificates to support the energy transition and enhance the value of the province's green electricity.
