The ±800 kV Lingzhou-Shaoxing ultra-high voltage direct current (UHV DC) transmission project has completed 10 years of stable operation as of Aug 24, State Grid said.
The project, a key channel in China's west-to-east power transmission program, has delivered 459.1 TWh of electricity from Ningxia to East China over the decade, supporting reliable power supply in the region while helping convert the northwest's energy resource advantages into economic value.
Spanning 1,720 km from Lingzhou converter station in Ningxia to Shaoxing converter station in Zhejiang, the line passes through six provincial-level regions including Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan and Anhui. It has a maximum transmission capacity of 8 GW and has operated at an average of 5,739 hours annually.
State Grid's northwest branch has completed key grid reinforcement projects including the 750 kV Lingzhou-Liupanshan-Pingliang double-circuit lines and the Ningxia 750 kV double-ring network, strengthening the grid structure around the Ling-Shao line to support its long-term stable operation.
As China's new power system develops, the project uses a coordinated control system for hydro, thermal, wind, solar and storage resources, along with flexible market trading mechanisms, to integrate power from large renewable bases in desert and arid areas. It also bundles thermal and renewable power for outbound transmission, supporting national power supply security and the energy transition.
