State Grid Qinghai Electric Power Co. has completed grid connection and commissioning tests for energy storage stations at its new power system research base, with 605 MW of new energy storage projects connected to the grid in the first seven months of 2026, up 38.3% year on year.
The province's total installed energy storage capacity reached 4.21 GW by July 31, reflecting steady improvement in the sector's development quality and efficiency.
Since the start of the year, the company has focused on high-quality development of new energy storage, strengthening government-enterprise coordination, optimizing grid connection services and improving dispatch efficiency to address bottlenecks in the sector.
State Grid Qinghai has worked with the provincial government, the Qinghai Energy Administration and power generators to establish a task force that scientifically defines storage project scale and technology pathways based on new energy development layout and power supply needs.
The company has also launched special campaigns to address insufficient dispatch of some storage projects, optimizing automatic generation control logic and restructuring data exchange methods to ensure stable operation of storage stations.
By end-July, the number of dispatchable storage stations in Qinghai increased 28% year on year, with improved standardization of storage resource utilization.
In grid connection services, the company upgraded its full-process management model for storage projects, enabling online submission of project documents, multi-disciplinary joint reviews and problem rectification feedback through a digital platform.
By linking the grid connection management system with dispatch cloud outage management data, the company has better matched project rectification progress with outage and connection plans, cutting average grid connection time for storage projects by 47% by end-July.
To maximize the regulatory value of storage for grid stability, the company has broken away from traditional fixed-schedule charging and discharging, implementing differentiated and refined dispatch based on dynamic analysis of grid section loads, new energy output characteristics and power supply-demand conditions.
Storage stations charge during periods of new energy curtailment pressure and discharge when the grid faces power gaps, playing a key role in peak shaving and new energy consumption. Power-side storage charging and discharging hours increased 37% year on year by end-July.
The company continues to improve storage services and dispatch systems, promote cross-provincial and cross-regional coordinated dispatch of storage resources, and advance large-scale, high-quality development of the new energy storage industry.
