Strict safety checks persisted across Shanxi, slowing mine restarts, while operating mines largely curbed output, tightening overall supply, according to the latest survey from Sxcoal.

As of August 19, a total of 51 coking coal mines across five cities – Changzhi, Taiyuan, Jinzhong, Luliang and Linfen – remained suspended, involving 54.7 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of capacity. The number of halted mines was flat from August 18 while fell by 68 from May 25. Idled capacity also stayed unchanged versus August 18, yet declined by 79.8 Mtpa compared from May 25.
