Chongqing power market expands registrations, trading in H1 2026

Chongqing's power market saw continued growth in registered participants and steady expansion of market-based trading in the first half of 2026, with spot market settlement trials progressing smoothly.

As of end-June, the Chongqing power trading platform had 12,537 registered market members, comprising one grid company, 60 power generators, 240 retail electricity firms, over 12,000 power users and 12 energy storage companies, according to data from the Chongqing Power Exchange.

Market-based power transactions within the municipality totaled 61.92 TWh in net settled volume during January-June, including 37.17 TWh of direct trading and 24.75 TWh of grid company agency purchases. Inter-provincial purchase transactions reached 21.06 TWh, comprising 18.70 TWh of planned volumes, 2.15 TWh of out-of-plan volumes, 0.11 TWh of inter-provincial spot power and 0.10 TWh of fluctuation deviation purchases.

Since Chongqing's power spot market launched continuous settlement trial operations, the average day-ahead clearing price stood at 0.3767 yuan/kWh in the first half, while the real-time market average clearing price was 0.3887 yuan/kWh, with price signals reflecting supply-demand fundamentals and overall stable operations.
