Power consumption in northwestern China's Gansu province rose 6.19% year on year in the first seven months of 2026, reaching 109.61 TWh, according to State Grid Gansu Electric Power Co.

All three industrial sectors and residential electricity use posted positive year-on-year growth. Primary sector consumption rose 3.07% from a year ago to 1.15 TWh during the given period, while secondary sector use increased 6.52% to 78.69 TWh. Tertiary sector consumption grew 5.34% on the year to 20.17 TWh, and urban-rural residential use rose 5.64% to 9.60 TWh.

Industrial electricity consumption, a key growth driver, totaled 78.66 TWh in January-July, up 6.48% year on year. The four major energy-intensive industries - nonferrous metals, ferrous metals, chemicals and non-metallic mineral products - consumed a combined 50.59 TWh, up 3.58% from a year earlier, indicating steady production in key industrial sectors.

State Grid Gansu said it has been implementing the provincial government's "Four Strengths" action plan, with its power business environment ranking among the top public service sectors in the province. The utility supported timely commissioning of major provincial projects, contributing 43.77 billion yuan in industrial output value.
