India adds record 44.5 GW renewable capacity in 2025

India achieved a record renewable energy capacity addition of 44.51 GW in 2025 (up to November), nearly doubling the 24.72 GW added in the same period the previous year.

This growth pushed the total installed renewable energy capacity to 253.96 GW by November 2025, marking a 23% increase from 205.52 GW in November 2024.

Solar energy saw a major contribution with 34.98 GW added, bringing total solar capacity to 132.85 GW, up 41% from the previous year. Wind energy also grew, with an addition of 5.82 GW, taking the total to 53.99 GW, a 12.5% increase from November 2024.

Aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's COP-26 vision, India aims for 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030.

The country surpassed 50% of its cumulative electric power capacity from non-fossil sources in June 2025, ahead of the 2030 target under the Paris Agreement.

As of November 2025, non-fossil installed capacity reached 262.74 GW, representing 51.5% of the total electricity capacity of 509.64 GW. Notably, on July 29, 2025, renewables supplied 51.5% of the total electricity demand of 203 GW.
