An ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission line connecting Hami in northwestern China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region to Zhengzhou in central China's Henan province has set a new record by transmitting over 10 TWh of electricity this year as of March 16, up 11.2% year on year, state media CCTV reported.
As the first UHVDC project designed to transmit electricity from Xinjiang to central China, the ±800 kV Hami-Zhengzhou transmission line has cumulatively transmitted 4,128 TWh of electricity since its commissioning, with annual outbound transmission exceeding 400 TWh for six consecutive years.
Total outbound electricity transmission by the project accounts for approximately 95.56% of Henan's total electricity consumption in 2024. This achievement has effectively utilized Xinjiang's vast energy resources and improved Henan's electricity supply.
The 2,192-kilometer transmission line passes through six provinces and regions, including Xinjiang, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Henan. The Tianshan Converter Station, a key component of the Hami-Zhengzhou UHVDC transmission project, delivers abundant wind, solar, and thermal power from Northwest China to the central region.
The Tianshan Converter Station transmits 450-700 TWh of electricity annually to Central China's power load centers. During the peak summer demand of 2024, the station maintained high-power operation, with transmission power reaching 6 GW for six consecutive years and a record daily transmission of 133 GWh.
