China consumed 939.6 TWh of electricity in July 2024, rising 5.7% on the year, according to data released by the National Energy Administration on August 22.

The primary sector, mainly agriculture, consumed 14.2 TWh of electricity, marking a 1.5% year-on-year increase. The secondary sector, primarily industrial activities, utilized 565.6 TWh of electricity, marking a 5% rise over the year. Power consumption in tertiary sector, largely services, reached 187.1 TWh, up 7.8% from the year prior.

For the residential segment, power consumption in July also saw a 5.9% increase year on year to 172.7 TWh.

From January to July, China's power consumption grew 7.7% from a year earlier to 5,597.1 TWh. Power companies above designated size generated 5,323.9 TWh of electricity during the given period, data showed.

The primary, secondary and tertiary sectors consumed 76.4 TWh (+7.5% YoY), 3,632.9 TWh (+6.6% YoY) and 1,039.6TWh (+11% YoY) of electricity, respectively, the first seven months. The residential power consumption advanced by 8.4% year on year to 848.2 TWh.
