Russia launches construction of second Severomuysky tunnel on BAM

Russian Railways has launched construction of the second Severomuysky tunnel on the Baikal-Amur Mainline. President Putin gave the start order on Sep 2, with boring underway from both ends. The tunnel, due for completion by end-2032, will eliminate a key bottleneck and help boost Eastern Polygon capacity from 180mn to 270mn tonnes annually.
