China's steel exports exceeded 10 million tonnes for a fourth consecutive month in August 2026, though cumulative exports in the first eight months remained below year-earlier levels.

Exports reached 10.16 million tonnes in August, the third-highest monthly level this year, up 0.3% from the previous month, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs on September 8.

Export value in August rose 1.3% month on month to $7.33 billion, putting the average export price at $722.2/t, up 0.9% from July.

Cumulative exports for January-August 2026 totaled 75.15 million tonnes, down 3.0% year on year, with export value at $53.05 billion, down 2.1% from the same period last year. The average export price for the eight-month period stood at $705.9/t, up 1.0% year on year.
