State Grid Corp hosted two APEC energy resilience meetings in Beijing on September 7, focusing on power system resilience and regional energy security.

The APEC Energy Resilience Task Force (ERTF) 21st meeting and a power system resilience seminar brought together delegates from Asia-Pacific economies to discuss strengthening grid resilience amid rising extreme weather events and deepening energy transition.

China is hosting APEC for the third time. State Grid, serving as co-chair of the ERTF on behalf of China under the guidance of the National Energy Administration, led discussions with member economies on power system resilience research and exchange.

Participants noted that frequent extreme weather and shifting energy landscapes have made energy security a priority across economies, with power system resilience increasingly critical to overall energy security. Balancing energy transition with security, enhancing grid resilience and strengthening risk prevention and emergency recovery capabilities remain shared challenges.

China has advanced grid infrastructure upgrades, power system regulation capacity, extreme weather emergency response and digital technology applications across the power chain. State Grid has deepened digital applications in dispatching, operations and early warning, shifting from passive repair toward proactive immunity and rapid self-healing capabilities.

At the ERTF meeting, co-chairs from China and the Philippines delivered welcome remarks, emphasizing resilience building as key to regional energy security and sustainable development. Delegates approved the meeting agenda and minutes from the 20th session, and introduced new self-funded energy resilience projects.

State Grid released a voluntary contribution document titled "Recommended Solutions for Enhancing Power System Resilience" at the seminar. The framework proposes a three-dimensional approach covering equipment infrastructure, market and policy systems, and governance and emergency coordination, spanning generation, grid, load and storage segments.

Participants called for joint efforts to build resilient, sustainable and inclusive power systems adapted to a renewable-dominated Asia-Pacific energy landscape.
