Liaoning Port Group handles over 1 Mt of Simandou iron ore at Dalian

Liaoning Port Group said on August 31 that Dalian port had successfully unloaded six Simandou iron ore vessels since the bonded crushing project for Simandou iron ore commenced operations, with cumulative unloading volume surpassing 1 million tonnes.

The Simandou iron ore bonded crushing project started operations in March this year. Dalian port's ore terminal has ramped up its bonded crushing output to 13,000 tonnes per day within months, up from an initial 1,000 tonnes and exceeding original design targets. The facility has achieved full-capacity stable production, with operational efficiency ranking among the top coastal ports nationwide.

China, the world's largest iron ore consumer, imports over 1.1 billion tonnes annually, with external dependence exceeding 80%. The Simandou mine, a world-class large-scale high-grade hematite deposit with iron content above 65%, could supply nearly 10% of China's annual iron ore imports once fully operational.

Dalian port, located at the center of the Northeast Asian economic circle, operates China's first 400,000-tonne iron ore berths and a comprehensive rail-sea intermodal transport network, positioning it as the most convenient maritime gateway for Simandou ore entering northeast China.

Customer feedback indicates Simandou ore complements local northeast China ores effectively, delivering favorable smelting results that have reduced steelmakers' production costs and improved overall efficiency.
