The government of Ordos in Inner Mongolia autonomous region has outlined measures to strengthen power grid infrastructure and boost new energy consumption capacity.

The city will accelerate construction of key 500 kV transmission projects, with the Jirige project approved in March 2026 and scheduled to start construction in August 2026. The Xini 500 kV substation is in the final feasibility study stage.

Two major transmission projects — the Kusha 500 kV substation and the Gusanliang-Qianlishan 500 kV line — were completed and put into operation by end-May 2025.

Ultra-high-voltage (UHV) transmission corridors from the Kubuqi Desert to Shanghai, Jiangsu and Anhui have been included in the city's 15th "Five-Year Plan" new energy export plan, with full completion expected by the end of the plan period, significantly boosting new energy export capacity.

The city will also streamline approval procedures for grid projects, allowing eligible major projects to apply for early land use and exempting substations outside urban planning areas from certain construction permits.
