Some coal mines in Changzhi's Qinyuan and Jinzhong's Lingshi restarted production on August 5, though strict safety inspections across Shanxi led to new suspensions elsewhere.

Most mines have reduced output to varying degrees due to safety concerns, previous overproduction and inspection factors, with no significant production increase expected in the short term.

A survey by Sxcoal showed 60 coking coal mines across Changzhi, Taiyuan, Jinzhong, Luliang and Linfen were suspended as of August 5, involving 64.9 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of capacity. The number of halted mines fell by one from a day earlier and was 59 fewer than on May 25. Suspended capacity declined 0.3 Mtpa day on day and 69.6 Mtpa from May 25.
