Philippines coal imports rebounded in June 2026, rising from the previous month and exceeding year-earlier levels, preliminary customs data showed.

June imports totaled 3.48 million tonnes, up 6.25% year on year and 10.67% from a month earlier. In the same period last year, imports stood at 3.27 million tonnes, while the previous month's figure was 3.14 million tonnes.

During January-June 2026, total coal imports reached 19.16 million tonnes, up 1.02% from 18.97 million tonnes in the same period a year earlier.

Indonesia remained the largest supplier in June, with imports of 3.48 million tonnes, up 11.18% month on month and 11.18% year on year, accounting for 99.98% of total imports. By coal type, other coal saw the highest import volume at 3.45 million tonnes, up 15.92% from the previous month and 7.44% from a year earlier.

The increase in June imports was driven by domestic power plants stocking up ahead of peak summer demand season in July-August. Meanwhile, supply chain disruptions from Indonesia's market volatility in May had eased, allowing previously delayed purchase orders to be delivered and unloaded in June, which partly lifted the monthly import volume.
