China's power generation from all sources reached 858.6 TWh in December 2025, a 0.1% uptick year on year, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on January 19. Daily power generation in December averaged 27.7 TWh.

The output of thermal power, mostly coal-fired, totaled 581.2 TWh in the month, down 3.2% from last year; hydropower grew 4.1% year on year to 86.5 TWh; nuclear power 44.6 TWh, gaining 3.1% on the year; wind 104.1 TWh, up 8.9% from a year earlier; solar 42.2 TWh, up 18.2% from the preceding year, the NBS data showed.

Power generation totaled 9,715.9 TWh over 2025, up 2.2% on the year.

Electricity output across various sources posted both increases and declines from the year-ago levels, with solar power climbing 24.4% to 572.6 TWh during the period, marking the fastest growth among all sources.

Thermal power output, however, declined 1% from a year ago to 6,294.5 TWh.
