Germany approves 20.8 GW of new onshore wind capacity in 2025

Germany broke records in 2025 by approving 20.8 GW of new onshore wind capacity, while installations jumped 58% YoY to 5.2 GW, according to the Wind and Solar Energy Agency. Faster permitting and regional leadership from North Rhine-Westphalia fueled the surge. Wind power now leads Germany's electricity mix, supplying 24% of total generation.
