Turpan city in northern China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region generated 4.38 TWh of wind power as of November 18, 2024, up 4.33% year on year, according to data from the State Grid Turpan Power Supply Co.'s Power Dispatch Control Center.
The city benefits from abundant wind energy, with wind speeds typically ranging from 30 to 100 km/hour across many areas. Since the first wind farm began operations in 2007, the city's total installed wind capacity has grown to 2.26 GW, up 29.89% from 1.74 GW in early 2020.
In its efforts to promote a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system, the State Grid Turpan Power Supply Co. has accelerated the development of grid infrastructure to optimize renewable energy transmission.
The company invested 125 million yuan in six key grid projects this year, including the construction of a 65.8-kilometer, 220 KV line dedicated to renewables. These projects are designed to enhance grid services and support the integration of more renewable sources, ensuring wind power utilization consistently exceeds 95%.
By the end of 2024, Turpan's wind capacity installations are expected to increase 2 GW to 4.26 GW, which will account for 42.55% of the region's total installed capacity.
