Feng Dongbin, deputy general manager of Fenwei Digital Information Technology Co., Ltd. (Sxcoal), was invited to attend Mongolia's flagship MiningWeek & MinePro 2026 annual event on September 17, delivering a keynote speech on the opportunities and challenges facing Mongolian coal within the Chinese import market.

During his address, Feng reviewed China's import trends for Mongolian coal in recent years, analyzing its robust price advantages and structural complementarity within the Chinese market. He offered an in-depth analysis of the challenges and market prospects, emphasizing that Mongolian coal retains substantial room for growth in China, with cost competitiveness poised to scale further as regional infrastructure projects reach completion.

Highlighting Mongolia's strong market standing, Feng noted that Mongolia has remained China's largest coking coal import source since 2021 and its second-largest overall coal import source since 2025. Currently, China's coking coal import landscape has diversified into a stable framework anchored by Mongolian and Russian supplies alongside other supplementary channels.

The sharp reduction in domestic supply after a fatal accident in Shanxi late May has further opened up export space for Mongolian coal producers, he pointed out.

The MiningWeek & MinePro 2026 event took place in the Nalaikh district of Ulaanbaatar from September 16 to 18. Having evolved into Mongolia's most prominent comprehensive mining sector platform, the event brought together public and private sector leaders, diplomatic missions, international organizations, global investors, chambers of commerce, and mining technology suppliers.

The conference was co-hosted by Mongolia's Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority of Mongolia, and the Mongolian National Mining Association. Operating under the theme "Towards Sustainability: Greener Future & Global Partnerships," this year's program centered heavily on sustainable development, green transitions, and deepened international cooperation.
