China Huadian Corp outlined plans to accelerate its green transition, targeting more than 400 GW of installed capacity and a clean energy share above 70% by the end of the 15th "Five-Year Plan" period.

The company released its 14th "Five-Year Plan" carbon emissions white paper at the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on September 17, its third such report following the 12th and 13th "Five-Year Plan" periods.

China Huadian's installed capacity currently stands at 286 GW, with clean energy accounting for 62.2%.

Wu Jingkai, vice general manager of China Huadian, said the 15th "Five-Year Plan" period is critical for achieving carbon peak. The company will align with national energy transition goals and pursue green, low-carbon development, he said.

During the 14th "Five-Year Plan" period, China Huadian's carbon emission intensity per unit of power supply fell by 60.93 grams per kWh in 2025 compared with 2020, while carbon dioxide emissions per 10,000 yuan of output value dropped 23% from the end of the 13th "Five-Year Plan" period, a record low.

Over the five-year period, the company cut cumulative carbon dioxide emissions by 871 million tonnes through energy mix optimization and energy conservation. Its carbon market trading volume reached 62.97 million tonnes, with a 100% compliance rate for four consecutive years.

China Huadian has accelerated renewable energy development, building wind and solar bases in desert and arid regions in the northwest, integrated hydro-wind-solar-storage clean energy bases in the southwest, and offshore wind projects in coastal areas. By the end of 2025, its new energy installed capacity exceeded 110 GW.

The company completed 28.22 GW of energy-saving renovations during the period, reducing coal consumption for thermal power generation to 292.11 g/kWh. All seven of its coal mines received 5A green mine certification. It also achieved breakthroughs in hydrogen, energy storage and CCUS technologies, with projects including an off-grid wind-to-hydrogen facility in Tieling, Liaoning province, and a large-scale hydrogen production project in Darhan Muminggan Joint Banner, Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

Looking ahead to the 15th "Five-Year Plan" period, China Huadian will align with national climate targets, dual carbon control requirements and new energy system construction goals, deepening six implementation paths and upgrading 12 special action plans.
