Russia Railways set a new record for coal exports in the eastern direction in Aug 2026, rising 6.1% YoY to 10.6 Mt driven by stable demand from Asian markets, said the company. Taking into account the internal Russian traffic, 13.3 Mt of coal were shipped to the east along the Baikal-Amur Mainline and the Trans-Siberian Railway, up 4.7% YoY. In general, coal loading on the Russian Railways network in Aug amounted to 26.8 Mt, up 5.2% YoY, of which 15.9 Mt (+7.9%) were exported; 14.6 Mt (+9.8%) were shipped in the direction of ports. Coal handling for Jan-Aug amounted to 220 Mt (+2.9%), including 126.5 Mt for export (+7.2%).
