Yari Resources, an Australian explorer focused on coal assets in the Bowen Basin, has identified potential to produce semi-soft coking, PCI and high-CV thermal coal from its recently acquired Arcadia Coal Project in Queensland's Bowen Basin.

An independent coal quality assessment reviewed historical data covering 44 boreholes and 1,472 samples across the main B, C and D seams of the Bandanna Formation at the 282-million-tonne resource project.

The review puts average in-situ ash at roughly 10%, confirming Arcadia's capability to deliver multiple coal products. Preliminary testing shows selective mining across 32% of the low-ash resource could deliver an average crucible swell number (CSN) of around three, signaling semi-soft coking coal properties.

Historical testwork indicates washing can cut ash content and lift CSN values by one to two points.

Managing Director Courtney Taylor described Arcadia as "a highly flexible coal opportunity".

"The naturally low in-situ ash provides the potential for a relatively high-yield thermal product, while accepting a lower yield through selective mining and beneficiation may produce a smaller proportion of coal with semi-soft coking characteristics," Taylor noted.

"We are continuing to build out the Arcadia technical database, with additional historical drilling and geophysical datasets already identified for review." The director added that this growing body of data will inform planning for the project's next development phase.

Yari completed the Arcadia acquisition in August. The project hosts 282 million tonnes of coal resources, comprising 164 million tonnes indicated and 118 million tonnes inferred resources.

Combined with its existing 222.9-million-tonne Rolleston South Coal Project, Yari now holds approximately 504.9 million tonnes of total coal resources within the Rolleston district, with access to established road, rail and export-oriented infrastructure.
