Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the 8th China-Russia Energy Business Forum held in Vladivostok on September 4, state news agency Xinhua reported.

Xi noted that amid complex changes in the international landscape, the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination has developed at a high level, with energy cooperation yielding fruitful results that have effectively promoted common development and set an example of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Xi stressed that the current international energy landscape is undergoing profound adjustments, with opportunities and challenges intertwined. China is willing to work with Russia to continuously deepen energy cooperation and jointly maintain the stability and smooth operation of the energy industry chain and supply chain.

As is well known, Russia remains a key coal supplier to China. Kpler vessel-tracking data showed Russia's seaborne coal exports totaled 102 million tonnes in January-July 2026, up 6.87% year on year, with 32.45 million tonnes shipped to China's mainland, accounting for 32% of the total.

During the same period, China imported 268 million tonnes of coal, up 4.2% year on year, with 16% sourced from Russia, according to data from China's General Administration of Customs. Russia was China's third-largest coal import supplier during the period, trailing Indonesia and Mongolia.
