Australia's coal export value totaled A$5.98 billion in July 2026, up 11.73% year on year but down 16.10% from the previous month, according to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The July figure was the third-highest monthly level this year, trailing June's A$7.13 billion and May's A$6.10 billion.

Australia's coal exports to Japan hit A$1.87 billion in July, accounting for 31% of the country's total coal export value, though the figure fell 3.35% year on year and 12.38% month on month.

Exports to China's mainland totaled A$1.11 billion in July, up 56.56% year on year but down 27.40% from a month earlier, representing a 19% share of total exports.

Shipments to South Korea stood at A$683 million, down 4.28% year on year and 0.77% month on month. Exports to India reached A$634 million, falling 20.58% year on year and 39.19% month on month. Coal exports to China's Taiwan totaled A$384 million, up 3.96% year on year but down 15.13% from the previous month.

During January-July 2026, Australia's cumulative coal export value reached A$39.76 billion, up 10.53% year on year. Exports to China's mainland totaled A$6.01 billion over the period, up 24.58% year on year.
