Four miners died from toxic gas suffocation in a coal mine in Tala wa Barfak district, Afghanistan's northern Baghlan province, state-run Northern Coal Enterprise confirmed on September 6.

The accident took place at one of the district's unregulated, non-standard mining sites. The four victims died from toxic gas buildup underground.

A technical engineer team from Northern Coal Enterprise was deployed to the location for emergency response and rescue work. High underground toxic gas concentrations created major obstacles for on-site operations, and rescue attempts failed to save the workers.

The state-owned enterprise cautioned that mining activities lacking sound safety protocols, sufficient ventilation and technical oversight carry severe fatal risks for personnel. Its officials underscored that compliance with safety norms, technical supervision and accident prevention safeguards are indispensable for all mines under its remit.
