China Southern Power Grid's electricity-carbon service arm and Guangdong Telecom have jointly launched a precision metering system for data center electricity efficiency, aiming to build a high-accuracy measurement foundation for coordinated electricity-carbon-computing management.
The project, unveiled at the 2026 China International Big Data Industry Expo in Guizhou on August 29, integrates grid power consumption, data center metering and regional carbon emission factors through the Southern Energy Industry Trusted Data Space. It enables precise calculation of core energy-carbon efficiency indicators including PUE and CUE.
By anchoring each kilowatt-hour of electricity consumption to green power and carbon emission data, the system creates a complete traceable energy and carbon data chain, providing credible support for green power tracing and carbon emission control.
The two state-owned enterprises plan to expand cooperation into green power verification and flexible load linkage scenarios, explore zero-carbon computing park development, and refine the coordinated electricity-carbon-computing management system to support China's carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.
