Vietnam Jul coal output down almost 11% MoM

Vietnam's coal output in July 2026 retreated again, with the month-on-month decline nearing 11%. The volume, however, rose year on year for the second consecutive month, showed data from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam.

In July, Vietnam produced 3.74 million tonnes of coal, rising 3.23% from 3.62 million tonnes a year ago but falling 10.64% from 4.18 million tonnes in the previous month.

Total coal output amounted to 27.19 million tonnes in the first seven months this year, 3.07% lower than 28.05 million tonnes in the same period last year, data showed. The volume was also higher than the previously estimated 27.39 million tonnes.

The country's coal production is estimated at 3.51 million tonnes in August, advancing 18.34% year on year yet down 6.20% month on month.

The majority of domestically produced coal in Vietnam is used for electricity generation, cement production, and other industrial purposes.
