China's financial institutions held total assets of 562.2 trillion yuan ($78.4 trillion) at the end of Q2 2026, up 7.7% year on year, according to preliminary data from the central bank.Banking institutions accounted for 497.98 trillion yuan of the total, up 6.6% YoY, while securities firms saw assets jump 29.8% to 20.37 trillion yuan and insurers rose 11.8% to 43.86 trillion yuan. Total liabilities across the sector reached 514.48 trillion yuan, up 7.9% YoY, with banking liabilities at 458.37 trillion yuan (up 6.8%), securities at 16.32 trillion yuan (up 36.6%) and insurance at 39.79 trillion yuan (up 12.2%).
