Turkey's coal imports totaled 3.61 million tonnes in July 2026, down 18.3% from a year earlier but up 11.3% from the previous month, marking a new high in 2026, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

July import value stood at $433 million, down 9.67% year on year but up 14.4% month on month. The average import price was calculated at $119.85/t, up 10.56% from a year earlier and 2.78% from the previous month.

During January-July, Turkey imported 21.25 million tonnes of coal, down 14.69% year on year, with the cumulative import value reaching $2.38 billion, down 12.61%.

By coal type, other bituminous coal imports totaled 2.98 million tonnes in July, down 16.84% year on year but up 10.25% month on month. Coking coal imports stood at 564,500 tonnes, down 24.44% year on year and up 20.13% from the previous month. Anthracite imports were 68,700 tonnes, down 25.16% year on year and 6.37% month on month.

Russia remained Turkey's largest coal supplier in July, supplying 2.68 million tonnes, down 13.05% year on year but up 6.51% month on month. Imports from the United States reached 402,900 tonnes, up 78.58% year on year and 25.2% month on month. Coal imports from Kazakhstan totaled 336,100 tonnes, surging 102.71% year on year and up 38.25% from the previous month.

Turkey imported 154,100 tonnes of coke in July, up 57.04% year on year and jumping 202.31% month on month. Coke import value reached $47.15 million, up 95.99% year on year and 241.1% month on month.

During January-July, Turkey's coke imports totaled 657,500 tonnes, up 54.64% year on year, with the import value reaching $179 million, up 56.38% from a year ago.
