China's commercial coal consumption increased 1.3% year on year in the first half of 2026, according to China Shenhua Energy Co., Ltd. Consumption by the power generation sector grew 2.0% YoY, accounting for roughly 57.8% of total demand, while the chemical industry posted a 9.9% YoY gain. Coal consumption in the steel and building materials sectors declined over the same period.
