Zhejiang microgrid joins grid dispatch in 1st three-tier coordination

Hangzhou Power Supply Company has completed a simulation test bringing a park-level microgrid under large-grid dispatch management, marking the first three-tier coordinated interaction scenario on the Zhejiang grid.

The test, conducted on August 24, used remote control of microgrid equipment at the Yuhang Gaote zero-carbon park to resolve a voltage over-limit anomaly on a 10-kilovolt distribution transformer, according to the State Grid News.

Park-level microgrids with solar and storage resources can achieve internal balance but remain "invisible and uncontrollable" to the grid side, with substantial solar generation unable to be fully utilized and its intermittency potentially affecting grid operations.

Hangzhou Power Supply Company launched the pilot this year, installing 16 data acquisition terminals on 40 devices including inverters, storage units and wind turbines at the park, enabling panoramic display, real-time monitoring and remote management within the new dispatch system.

The setup creates physical and information channels for two-way interaction between the microgrid and the main and distribution grids, allowing dispatch to convert the microgrid into a generator, storage station or emergency support point during grid anomalies such as overloads, load gaps or voltage fluctuations.

The Yuhang Gaote microgrid can participate in regulation and support for more than five types of abnormal grid conditions once connected, and has been linked to Hangzhou's artificial intelligence-based power supply assurance platform for more systematic and intelligent coordination.
