China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) Vice Chairman Luo Tiejun met with BHP Group's President of Sales and Marketing Michiel Hovers on August 25 to discuss China's steel industry trends, BHP's iron ore operations and supply chain cooperation.
Luo welcomed the BHP delegation and outlined China's steel market performance and outlook. He acknowledged BHP's continued investment in iron ore to maintain stable supply and quality, expressing hope that capacity replacement projects would come on stream as scheduled to meet market demand.
Luo commended BHP for addressing Chinese steelmakers' concerns and reaching agreement with China Mineral Resources Group on new annual long-term contracts. He expressed hope that BHP would continue strengthening its long-term partnership with China Mineral Resources and the broader Chinese steel industry, with CISA facilitating further cooperation.
As a shareholder of the Beijing Iron Ore Trading Center (COREX), BHP has supported its development, and Luo urged the company to leverage its resource advantages to help improve the COREX Index.
Hovers thanked CISA for its guidance and support, detailing BHP's production and sales of iron ore, copper, coking coal and potash. He said BHP places high importance on the Chinese market and remains committed to being a reliable long-term iron ore supplier.
Hovers said the company delivered solid performance in fiscal 2026 and would continue prioritizing product stability and market competitiveness amid complex conditions ahead. BHP, an active participant in COREX's development, agreed with CISA's recommendations on improving the COREX Index and pledged greater support to enhance its liquidity and transparency.
