China mid-Aug coal prices extend gains, coking coal leads

China's coal prices extended gains in mid-August, with coking coal posting the sharpest rise, while coal chemical prices also surged again, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on August 24.

Anthracite (washed medium lumps) rose 3.1% from the preceding ten-day period to 1,354.5 yuan/t.

Shanxi high-quality blend (5,500 Kcal/kg NAR) climbed 2.5% to 862.0 yuan/t.

Primary coking coal jumped 7.1% to 2,043.1 yuan/t.

Coke (quasi-first grade metallurgical coke, 12.01% ≤ ash ≤ 13.50%) fell 2.0% to 1,646.4 yuan/t.

Urea (small and medium granules) declined 1.1% to 1,750.4 yuan/t, while ordinary Portland cement (P.O 42.5 bulk) edged up 0.9% to 249.1 yuan/t.

Methanol (premium grade) surged 6.3% to 2,635.6 yuan/t. LLDPE (film grade, melt index 2) rose 2.2% to 8,602.3 yuan/t, and polypropylene (raffia grade) gained 2.2% to 9,034.4 yuan/t.

LNG prices increased 0.6% to 5,572.8 yuan/t, while LPG edged up 0.3% to 5,808.5 yuan/t.
