Captrain switches coal shipments to rail on low Rhine water levels

Captrain Deutschland has ramped-up rail transport for coal and coke as low Rhine levels disrupt inland barge traffic. Since early Aug, 3-4 extra weekly round-trip coal trains run between Wilhelmshaven and the Ruhr area, adding 4,000?tonnes of weekly coal capacity. Germany-France coke round-trips rose from 4 to 5, lifting capacity by 2,000?tonnes. The adjustments seek to secure raw material supplies for steel and metal industries exposed to Rhine shipping disruptions.
