S Korea's utility Koen seeks 3.06 Mt thermal coal imports through tender

S Korea's state-owned Korea South-East Power (Koen) has floated a tender to buy up to 3.06 Mt of mid- and high-CV thermal coal spanning Sep 2026-Sep 2030 to its power plants, according to a recent announcement from the company. The 1st lot LT03 calls for coal with min CV of 5,800 Kcal/kg NAR, with a first-year delivery of 155 Kt/yr (1 Cape) and the rest 4 yrs each 465 Kt. Supplies are open for Indonesia, Australia, US, Canada, S Africa, and Colombia. The 2nd lot demands coal with min CV 4,200 Kcal/kg NAR, with a 1st-year supply of 80 Kt (1 Pmx) and the rest 4 yrs each 240 Kt, and is restricted to Indonesia, Australia, US, and Canada-origin coal. Bids will be closed by 20:00 Korean Standard Time on Aug 14, 2026.
