China Jul coal imports rise YoY, dip MoM

China imported 42.73 million tonnes of coal in July 2026, up 19.99% from 35.61 million tonnes in the same month last year, customs data showed on August 7.

The July volume was down 0.12% from June's 42.78 million tonnes, a decline of 51,300 tonnes.

The import value for July stood at $4.35 billion, up 83.82% year on year and 12.74% from the previous month. The average import price was calculated at $101.91/t, up $35.39/t from a year earlier and $11.62/t month on month.

During January-July 2026, China's cumulative coal imports reached 268.11 million tonnes, up 4.26% year on year, with the total import value at $22.47 billion, up 15.72% from the same period last year.
