Vietnam's coal output rose over 15% from a year earlier in December 2025, though registering a month-on-month dip, showed data from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam.

In December, Vietnam produced 3.88 million tonnes of coal, climbing 15.48% from 3.36 million tonnes a year ago but down 2.51% from 3.98 million tonnes in the previous month.

Total coal output amounted to 45.65 million tonnes last year, 3.93% higher than 43.92 million tonnes in 2024, data showed. The volume was lower than the previously estimated 45.71 million tonnes and hit the second-lowest annual level in seven years.

The country's coal production is estimated at 3.92 million tonnes in January, up 13.85% year on year and 0.9% month on month.

The majority of domestically produced coal in Vietnam is used for electricity generation, cement production, and other industrial purposes.
