Russia Nov coal output hits intra-yr high, Rosstat

Russia produced 37.96 million tonnes of coal in November 2025, growing for the fourth consecutive month and reaching the highest level this year, according to data released by the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat).

The output volume was up 1.9% from the preceding month but 1.6% lower than the year-ago level, Rosstat data showed.

About 69% or 26.32 million tonnes of coal was contributed by the Siberian Federal District in November, down 0.9% from the month-ago level and 2.2% year on year, data showed.

In the month, Russia's anthracite output rose 7.8% from a month ago to 1.66 million tonnes, down 12.4% from the year before; coking coal 8.83 million tonnes, up 12.0% from October but sliding 4.8% from a year ago.

Russia churned out 18.16 million tonnes of other bituminous coal in November, falling 3.0% month on month yet up 3.2% year on year. The country's lignite production stood at 9.32 million tonnes, gaining 2.3% on the month while diving 5.0% on the year.

Coal output totaled 389 million tonnes in January-November, 0.8% higher than the year-ago level, Rosstat data showed. Anthracite, coking coal, other bituminous coal, and lignite output stood at 18.64 million, 91.98 million, 188.91 million, and 89.80 million tonnes, respectively.
