A fire broke out on December 20 at an administrative building belonging to Mezhegeyugol, a major coal company in the Tandinsky District of Tyva, Russia, state-run Tass reported.

The blaze affected a two-story administrative and utility facility spanning approximately 700 square meters.

According to the regional office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire was successfully contained without casualties, and there was no threat of it spreading to adjacent buildings.

Mezhegeyugol, one of the largest coal enterprises in Tyva, operates at the Mezhegeyskoye coal deposit located in the Sayan Mountains. The company specializes in the underground anthracite extraction.

However, operations have been on hold since the spring due to the unfavorable market situation, and no formal plans for resumption have been announced, according to Metals & Mining Intelligence.
