China Energy Investment Group (CHN Energy), a state-owned leading mining and energy group, saw 12 of its open-cast mines successfully deploy 461 automated guided vehicles (AGVs) for coal transportation, with the operational efficiency reaching 87.3% compared to their human-operated counterparts.

With 21 open-pit coal mines and an annual production capacity of 295 million tonnes, CHN Energy is driving innovation in mining technology by rapidly advancing the use of AGVs, as part of a broader strategy to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability while advancing the smart transformation and upgrading of the coal sector, media reported.

The results are even more striking among some of its subsidiaries. For instance, the operational efficiency of five 300-tonne AGVs operated by Zhunneng Group achieved performance on par with human-driven trucks, while CHN Energy Xinjiang Energy's 18 AGVs recorded 115% of the efficiency of traditional human-operated vehicles.

Another subsidiary Shengli Energy has launched its first 110-tonne hydrogen-powered AGV, which emits only water during operation and can reduce annual carbon emissions by over 1,000 tonnes compared to traditional diesel-powered vehicles.

Leveraging advanced technologies such as 5G networks, intelligent dispatch systems, and big data analytics, CHN Energy has made many achievements, strengthening stability and competitiveness of the mining industry's supply chain, and driving high-quality development of AGV and the associated industrial ecosystem.
