China continues to lead the world in renewable development, with the utilization rates of wind and solar power exceeding 95% this year, official data showed, reflecting its efforts to ensure both speed and quality towards green transition.

By the end of 2024, the country's installed wind power capacity reached approximately 510 GWh, while solar capacity came in at around 840 GWh, Xinhua News Agency reported, citing the latest data released by the National Energy Administration.

Over January-July, the average utilization rate for wind power was 96.3%, and for solar power, 97.1%. Wind and solar power generation amounted to 1,054.9 TWh, accounting for 20% of the country's total electricity generation. This figure exceeded the power consumption of the tertiary industry (1,039.6 TWh) and residential usage (848.2 TWh) during the same period.

In 2023, the average utilization rate for wind power reached 97.3%, while solar power utilization stood even higher at 98%. Wind and solar power generation totaled 1,430 TWh, surpassing the total residential electricity consumption (1,350 TWh) and accounting for 15.8% of the country's aggregate power consumption – above the global average.

The country's new energy sector has experienced remarkable growth in recent years, maintaining double-digit annual growth rates. Since 2013, installed wind capacity has seen an average annual growth rate of about 20%, while solar capacity has achieved an average annual growth rate of about 60%.

These advancements have made China a critical driver in global green development, with the country accounting for more than 40% of the world's annual new renewable installations.

In addition, Chinese authorities committed to intensifying initiatives during the recent national energy work conference aimed at advancing the utilization of wind and solar energy to drive the nation's shift towards environmentally friendly and low-carbon practices.

China is also poised to expand international collaborations on green energy and engage proactively in global energy management.
