The U.S. exported 8.6 million tonnes of coal in September, up 8.1% year on year (YoY) and 3.9% month on month (MoM), showed data from US Census Bureau.

In the same month, the U.S. exported 4.2 million tonnes of thermal coal, rising 4.5% YoY but dropping 5.3% MoM, of which 3.3 million tonnes were bituminous coal, declining 5.2% YoY, and 715,700 tonnes were subbituminous coal, surging 73.1% YoY.

Meanwhile, the largest thermal coal export destination was India, which imported 896,900 tonnes. Netherland, Morocco and Japan imported 40,800 tonnes, 40,360 tonnes and 39,500 tonnes respectively.

In the given month, the U.S. exported 1.2 million tonnes of thermal coal through Baltimore port, 1.1 million tonnes via New Orleans and 716,000 tonnes Seattle.

Data showed, the met coal export in the U.S. reached 4.4 million tonnes, increasing 11.7% YoY and 14.5% MoM.

In the year to September, coal export grew 8.6% YoY, of which the thermal coal export rose 9.5% YoY.
