Russia's seaborne coal exports totaled 14.38 million tonnes in March 2023, climbing 21.57% from the preceding month and marking the first rebound after four straight months of decline, according to Kpler's cargo-tracking data.

The volume was also 136.76% higher compared with the year-ago level, data showed.

Shipments to Asia increased 29.51% from the preceding month and 37.57% year on year to 11.02 million tonnes in March, representing 77% of the country's total exports.

Exports to China's mainland came in at 5.88 million tonnes, surging 61.67% month on month and 136.76% from a year ago.

India returned back to its second place, with shipments at 1.80 million tonnes, which rose 44.60% from a month earlier and 260.38% from a year ago.

Exports to South Korea were registered at 1.64 million tonnes, down 11.07% from the preceding month and 7.88% from a year ago.

In February, Russia exported 1.90 million tonnes of seaborne coal to Europe, climbing 14.06% from the preceding month yet still 50.16% lower compared with the year-ago level. The shipments represented 13.21% of the total.

Russian coal exports to transcontinental Turkey stood at 1.60 million tonnes, rising 9.02% month on month and 203.29% year on year, data showed.

Over January-March, Russia's total seaborne coal exports were 39.13 million tonnes, up 5.58% year on year.
