Australia's largest coal export port Newcastle exported 136 million tonnes of coal in 2022, down 13.02% year on year, partly due to persistent rains that affected coal loading and shipment, data from Port of Newcastle showed.
The total coal export amounts came in at A$61.40 billion, a year-on-year increase of 119.6%.
The December exports were 13.24 million tonnes, rising 4.74% year on year and surging 40.31% on the month, hitting a new high since February last year. Exports amounts were A$7.31 billion, 170% higher year on year and rising 52.5% on the month.
In December, Newcastle's vessel queue totaled 156, increasing 43 from the month-ago level. The accumulative figure stood at 1,578 in the whole year, data showed.
