China added 4,007 new registered new energy power generation projects in August 2026, excluding residential rooftop solar, according to the latest data from the National Energy Administration.

The total comprised 29 wind power projects, 3,972 solar photovoltaic (PV) projects and 6 biomass power projects.

Within the solar PV category, there were 23 centralized PV projects and 3,949 commercial and industrial distributed PV projects.

The new projects were heavily concentrated in the southeastern coastal regions and economically developed provinces such as Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Anhui and Shandong, where thriving industrial and commercial activity, abundant rooftop resources and strong power demand support development.

By contrast, traditional wind and solar resource-rich regions including Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Gansu, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and Qinghai saw limited new project additions, likely constrained by grid absorption and connection policies or project cycles.
