German steel mills produced 2.59 million tonnes of crude steel in August 2026, up 1.7% year on year but down 3.2% month on month, according to data from German Steel Industry Association WV Stahl.

The association attributed the sequential output slowdown to persistently weak demand, with the downward trend seen in July extending into August.

Oxygen converter output totaled 1.87 million tonnes in August, down 2% year on year but up 2.2% month on month. Electric arc furnace steel output stood at 720,000 tonnes, rising 13% year on year while falling 15.1% on the month.

August pig iron output reached 1.65 million tonnes, slipping 5.5% year on year and 0.6% month on month. Hot-rolled steel production came in at 2.36 million tonnes, up 4.1% year on year but down 7.2% month on month.

In January-August, Germany's crude steel output totaled 23.9 million tonnes, climbing 6.3% year on year. Basic oxygen furnace output was 16.5 million tonnes, up 7.2% year on year, while electric arc furnace production hit 7.4 million tonnes, up 4.3% year on year.

Pig iron output over the eight months reached 14.9 million tonnes, up 5.7% year on year, and rolled steel products totaled 21 million tonnes, up 4.2% year on year.
